I used to use this on my Atari XT PC2 in the 80s/90s.  It was an MSDOS one pane file manager that run in character mode. But still, at the time it was better than DOS console commands like DIR. It's main competitor was Norton Commander, which was a DUAL pane MSDOS file manager (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Commander).

Xtree went the way of all things, but Norton's (before it was retired) inspired a whole genre of dual (and even quadruple) pane file managers such as Midnight Commander, and Free Commander, which is what I use on my PCs when in Windows.
