Well that's frustrating. I've had continued problems with the RecRoom PC being REALLY REALLY SLOW, and today after I tried adding extra system caches, the monitor's gone blank! My messing about (e.g. swapping over a different monitor to see if that works) but for now I'm just leaving it OFF.

What a pain. If you can boot it so I can see it, let me take a look with gotomeeting. Can be lots of things that causes PCs to slow way down.
ReplyDeleteFred Beckhusen Nope, if I could see it I could boot it, and there wouldn't be an issue. I think it's the graphic card that's blown, so I'm going to swap monitors around this morning.
ReplyDeleteSo, I removed the WINDFORCE graphics card and attached the PC to a bog standard monitor (max rez 1400x10150) and it booted OK and I have a usable RecRoom PC again.
ReplyDeleteOnly the monitor I slotted in is the 2nd worst one I have, and is usually hooked up to a laptop if at all. Without the graphics card in I can't run the 4K monitor directly, though I might be able to get a convertor cable between D-Sub to HDMI (which is how I'm currently running the NUC to a monitor. I don't think it's worth trying to replace or repair the graphics card. It was picked because it was a card that could be plugged into an older PC. Better to save up for a better replacement for the PC.
But, it might be better if I swap the 4K monitor over to the Media PC in the lounge. I think I have a second HDMI port on that one, and the monitor that's on it is much better than the one currently on the RecRoom PC.
