  1. Some-one forgot about mercury delay-line memory, which predates CRT memory. :-)

  2. But, as with nickel delay lines, Jeff NME, these are not random access technologies - they are recirculating technologies. Like drums and disks, the latency to get your data depends on where it is and when you want it.
