I think in some ways Blender is like Firefox and GIMP - it succeeds at being what it is because of a huge supporting community of developers and users, and has gadzillions of addons to extend it (see http://blenderaddonlist.blogspot.com.au/) further. And like those other two opensource programs, there's always another update in the works.

Earlier this year I decided to commit to Blender as my main 3D modelling editor, but this year has also been one of deferred, delayed and drawn out projects, so I will get to that eventually. Like most capable stuff, you have to sit down and play with it until you learn/understand it. Look forward to that.
