Godd heavens. I went looking for "Crane Rail profiles" on Google Images, and found... OpenBIM? It seems that this Opensource standard is supported by 150 applications, including FreeCad and Sketchuo (see http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/implementation/implementations). And then (apparently) theres xBIM (see http://www.openbim.org/)!
This seems to be a hitherto unknown (to me at least) standard that might prove to be useful. If this is a standard for modelling architecture, it follows that there might be repositories of such models. I can see a use for realistic architectural models, in Second Life, OpenSim, Unity, et cetera. Of course some repositories are better than others, depending on how they're to be used. Sketchup models are often buggy when imported into SL or OS, because sometimes they are missing faces, or have extra meshes in places that don't need them.
But still.
