Krita is cool.

Regarding Krita, this might be useful to anyone wondering what it looks like and how to get started. Although it's meant to be used with a tablet, for obvious reasons, it can still be used with a mouse for some basic work.
One one of the first things I discovered is the range of file formats it can handle. This is an immediate plus for me, I am constantly having to convert many back and forth. Krita can read Gimp .xcf files directly, extremely useful as it's a lossless format and Krita can get around some of Gimps shortcomings that won't be sorted until version 2.10 is released. If I never use it for creating actual artwork it would be worth having for this alone. It's not a replacement for Gimp as it fills another niche of pure art work. There are things I can do in Gimp that would be difficult in Krita and vice versa, and the same goes for Blender. But having all three means I'll be stuck for some reason or other a lot less often often. :)
