  1. Yep, the new head of MS has been opening source and making some products free... an entirely different business model. I am looking forward to the upcoming announcements.

  2. Azure, their Online cloud service is aggressive about Linux. I've used both their Linux and Server boxes there and it's really nice. Google is far behind, probably lost the race already, and Microsoft is giving Amazon services some serious competition and taking away market share.

  4. Not sure. I know Google was running a a deal on VM's that was about half the price of Azure. No idea if they still are - it's been two months or so since I checked. Mine was 2 cores and 4 gigs for about $75 a month - a good price for bare metal that you control. Getting into a machine that would comfortably run the Outworldz, 16 GB, was over $150 a month.
