I'm thinking of upgrading my ram on my Studio PC from 8GB to 16GB.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ram on my Studio PC from 8GB to 16GB. After some searching (it's hard to find ram that will run on an ASUS A85XM-A I found THIS. Is it worth it? The local shops I've phoned didn't have ram that would run on that motherboard, and the people at the other end of the phone suggested I upgrade the Motherboard instead! Kind of like suggesting I buy a new engine for my car when really I'm having trouble finding better tyres! Of course I have NO car anymore, but that was the best analogy I had.

The issue is being on a fixed income. I upgraded my RecRoom PC a bit last year with both a new motherboard and gee-whiz graphics card, but that's the PC I'll be DRAWING on mostly. The Studio PC will be used mostly for doing 3D stuff on , but not stuff that's so complicated it needs a new graphics card. More along the line of models for Opensimulator, stuff like that. With only 8GB, I've found that there's a distinct lag with the stuff I've been doing. The RecRoom PC, which has 16GM ram, has no such problems.

There's no immediate rush, so I won't be buying anything until I get feedback on this.

  1. Can hold up to 32, might want to wait and get that. Motherboard has only two slots is why. It can hold better processor. The main limit to the mobo then is just lack of more byte lanes so everything is waiting on RAM. But you are right, the RAM is the thing you most need. Opensim likes RAM more than anything.
