Well, this morning's going "as I expected".
It transpires that I needed to replace both LAN cables in the Studio. I discovered that the one that had seemed to work actually had a broken plug at one end. It'd been sitting in this one position on the Ethernet Switch for a L-O-N-G time, and I'd unplugged that one to test the spare LAN cable to the RecRoom. Luckily I remembered that I had a spare 30m LAN cable after all. Had I remembered this earlier I probably wouldn't have gone out and bought a new one, but it's just as well I did. A bit of cable rearranging still required.
When it came to the Studio PC, I was able to boot it again and it checked a message at boot about S.M.A.R.T. errors on that drive and advising me to backup and throw out! Gosh, that's what I've been trying to do! It's a good job the axe is in the garden shed. I'll see how "plan A" goes before using "plan Z" (the axe)!!! 😵
