Why am I not surprised? This seems an awful lot like the taking down of accounts that didn't use "real names" on the assumption that only dishonest people wouldn't use them. That was flawed as well, because it was oblivious to situations like drag queens who are mostly known in their communities by their stage names, and others may use an alias for safety reasons (like stalking, identity theft, and so on).
In other words, this was a half-arsed idea that wasn't thought through. Regardless of what gets posted, Facebook isn't concerned with truth, but with opinion.
