I decided to research just how wide roads are for the Seconds grid. Now I could just race outside and measure the width of my street, but I felt there had to be some sort of International standards (or at least comparisons), otherwise vehicles built somewhere else wouldn't all fit  on the roads when they were imported.

Anyway, I found DESIGN STANDARDS for URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE: 3 ROAD DESIGN (at http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/396857/ds03_roaddesign.pdf) but that was extremely dense reading!  But, I was saved by Lane Widths on Urban Roads (see http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/396857/ds03_roaddesign.pdf) produced by the Bicycle Network. Surprised to find that the average lane is only 3.0 - 3.5m wide.

But you never know where useful information comes from. When I was looking at making an airport in a sim, I found a wealth of PDF documents online clearly showing standards for marking and lights, including military ones! Cool.

When I used to read more of the technology and science mags I used to see regular references to "the return of the airship". Don't expect to see this in the skies anytime soon.

More bullying shown here - at least robot's able to get up and get away afterwards.

More bullying shown here - at least robot's able to get up and get away afterwards. This is probably the robot that walks out the door.

No wonder they build Skynet.

Robot Self-Righting Mechanism

Boston Dynamics, a subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet, unveiled the latest design of their Atlas robot earlier this week. Atlas is a bipedal model designed for use both indoors and outdoors and specializes in mobile manipulation The robot is electrically powered, hydraulically actuated, and uses LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles and navigate terrain.

The self-righting mechanism demonstrated here is important for returning the robot to its upright and standing position. Bipedal models are easier to knock over than quadruped designs. Boston Dynamics has a dedicated robot abuser who will be a major catalyst for the inevitable robot uprising following the creation of Skynet.
