Stanford Engineers Design a Robotic Gripper for Cleaning Up Space Debris
Right now, about 500,000 pieces of human-made debris are whizzing around space, orbiting our planet at speeds up to 17,500 miles per hour. This debris poses a threat to satellites, space vehicles and astronauts aboard those vehicles. What makes tidying up e...

The criticism that hits Hoel and Albantakis the hardest is one physicists sometimes make upon hearing the idea: They assert that noise, the driving force behind causal emergence, doesn’t really exist; noise is just what physicists call all the stuff that their models leave out. “It’s a typical physics point of view,” Albantakis said, that if you knew the exact microscopic state of the entire universe, “then I can predict what happens until the end of time, and there is no reason to talk about something like cause-effect power.”

WE haven't heard the last of this.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ram on my Studio PC from 8GB to 16GB.

I'm thinking of upgrading my ram on my Studio PC from 8GB to 16GB. After some searching (it's hard to find ram that will run on an ASUS A85XM-A I found THIS. Is it worth it? The local shops I've phoned didn't have ram that would run on that motherboard, and the people at the other end of the phone suggested I upgrade the Motherboard instead! Kind of like suggesting I buy a new engine for my car when really I'm having trouble finding better tyres! Of course I have NO car anymore, but that was the best analogy I had.

The issue is being on a fixed income. I upgraded my RecRoom PC a bit last year with both a new motherboard and gee-whiz graphics card, but that's the PC I'll be DRAWING on mostly. The Studio PC will be used mostly for doing 3D stuff on , but not stuff that's so complicated it needs a new graphics card. More along the line of models for Opensimulator, stuff like that. With only 8GB, I've found that there's a distinct lag with the stuff I've been doing. The RecRoom PC, which has 16GM ram, has no such problems.

There's no immediate rush, so I won't be buying anything until I get feedback on this.

One of the reasons I've deferred learning Blender properly, is the bloody interface.

One of the reasons I've deferred learning Blender properly, is the bloody interface. I have bifocals and my vision is not good at the best of times. Looking at the Default Blender theme, it's all small text on colours that blend too easily (see the mostly grey screenshot below) and that's a real pain to use, when I can barely read the headings let alone the buttons and values!

When I inquired about higher contrast themes in the community a while back, I was told GO DO IT IT YOURSELF without actually telling me how. So I left Blender alone after that, it such was an example of help. Now I've started playing around with themes It's a work in progress but I made the text LARGER and have more of a contrast (see the screenshot with the purplish 3D background colour). It's a start!

Werner Heisenberg: Quantum Mechanics and Uncertainty Principle

Werner Heisenberg: Quantum Mechanics and Uncertainty Principle

Werner Karl Heisenberg (born December 5, 1901, Würzburg, Germany—died February 1, 1976, Munich, West Germany), German physicist and philosopher who discovered (1925) a way to formulate quantum mechanics in terms of matrices.
So, in 1932, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for:
The creation of quantum mechanics, the application of which has led, among other things, to the discovery of the allotropic forms of hydrogen.

In 1927, he published, in the paper “Über den anschulichen Inhalt der quantentheoretischen Kinematik und Mechanik” (“On the Perceptual Content of Quantum Theoretical Kinematics and Mechanics”), his uncertainty principle, upon which he built his philosophy and for which he is best known.

This paper articulated the uncertainty, or indeterminacy, principle. Quantum mechanics demonstrated, according to Heisenberg, that the momentum (p) and position (x) of a particle could not both be exactly measured simultaneously.

Heisenberg drew a philosophically profound conclusion: absolute causal determinism was impossible, since it required exact knowledge of both position and momentum as initial conditions. Therefore, the use of probabilistic formulations in atomic theory resulted not from ignorance but from the necessarily indeterministic relationship between the variables. This viewpoint was central to the so-called “Copenhagen interpretation” of quantum theory, which got its name from the strong defense for the idea at Bohr’s institute in Copenhagen.

A his quotation:
"Quantum theory provides us with a striking illustration of the fact that we can fully understand a connection though we can only speak of it in images and parables."
Physics and Beyond (New York 1971)

He also made important contributions to the theories of the hydrodynamics of turbulent flows, the atomic nucleus, ferromagnetism, cosmic rays, and subatomic particles, and he was instrumental in planning the first West German nuclear reactor at Karlsruhe, together with a research reactor in Munich, in 1957.

N. Tesla's Pyromagneto Electric Generator Patented May 13, 1890

Nikola Tesla was an inventor who obtained around 300 patents worldwide for his inventions.
Some of Tesla's patents are not accounted for, and various sources have discovered some that have lain hidden in patent archives.

There are a minimum of 278 patents issued to Tesla in 26 countries that have been accounted for. Many of Tesla's patents were in the United States, Britain, and Canada, but many other patents were approved in countries around the globe. Many inventions developed by Tesla were not put into patent protection.

"The reality is that AI will have a dramatic impact on all aspects of people's lives, and it's going to happen sooner than most of us realize," wrote Ryan Bort in Newsweek. "The consensus arrived at by the world's top AI researchers bears this out. Admittedly, it's a little frightening, especially if you have a job that involves anything technique-based or formulaic."

Somehow I don't think I'll be around for this. I suppose the issue is then, how to adapt.

Have always found this a handy Windows program to load at Start. It disables the Caps Lock (and also the Insert key if you want) but you can also set it so that pressing Shift+Caps toggles the CAPSLOCK. wHY IS THIS SO hELPFUL, YOU ASK?! Because when I type I have a habit of accidentally hitting the thing. :P

You can also use the technique at https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-caps-lock-key-in-windows-vista/, but I find this little utility is more flexible.
