Ren'Py is a visual novel engine – used by thousands of creators from around the world – that helps you use words, images, and sounds to tell interactive stories that run on computers and mobile devices. These can be both visual novels and life simulation games. The easy to learn script language allows anyone to efficiently write large visual novels, while its Python scripting is enough for complex simulation games.
You too can create a visual novel with this software. Of course it might not look like manga, it might just look like whatever artist draws for the novel.

Really?!
Really?!
Originally shared by Danie van der Merwe
Microsoft confirms it’s acquiring GitHub for $7.5 billion
Microsoft is acquiring GitHub. After reports emerged that the software giant was in talks to acquire GitHub, Microsoft is making it official today. This is Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s second big acquisition, following the $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn two years ago. GitHub was last valued at $2 billion back in 2015, and Microsoft is paying $7.5 billion in stock for the company in a deal that should close later this year.
GitHub is a large code repository that has become very popular with developers and companies hosting entire projects, documentation, and code. Apple, Amazon, Google, and many other big tech companies use GitHub. There are 85 million repositories hosted on GitHub, and 28 million developers contribute to them. GitHub will now be led by CEO Nat Friedman, the founder of Xamarin, who will report to Microsoft’s Cloud and AI chief Scott Guthrie. GitHub CEO and co-founder Chris Wanstrath will now become a technical fellow at Microsoft, also reporting into Guthrie.
It’s easy to imagine why Microsoft would want to acquire GitHub. Microsoft killed its own GitHub competitor, Codeplex, in December and is now the top contributor to GitHub, Microsoft now has more than 1,000 employees actively pushing code to GitHub repositories.
Trust and respect won’t be easy for Microsoft to win, though. Developers are already voicing their concerns about Microsoft’s past abuses, and the company’s botched acquisition of Skype and Nokia’s phone business.
GitLab, a GitHub competitor, claims it has seen a 10x increase in the amount of developers moving their repositories over to its service, an early sign that there’s some developer unrest.
This is going to be interesting but as it is the open source world, there are alternatives so you have to win trust and confidence. Unfortunately for Microsoft, that trust has been broken many times over the last few decades and many developers have long memories...

I think in some ways Blender is like Firefox and GIMP - it succeeds at being what it is because of a huge supporting community of developers and users, and has gadzillions of addons to extend it (see http://blenderaddonlist.blogspot.com.au/) further. And like those other two opensource programs, there's always another update in the works.
Earlier this year I decided to commit to Blender as my main 3D modelling editor, but this year has also been one of deferred, delayed and drawn out projects, so I will get to that eventually. Like most capable stuff, you have to sit down and play with it until you learn/understand it. Look forward to that.

I have a history with Wings3D.
I have a history with Wings3D. I used it and DOGA (gasp, see http://www.doga.co.jp/english/) to make 3D models for an old webcomic of mine (which can still be seen at http://lauraseabrook.comicgenesis.com/d/20060207.html). I'm likely to revive that webcomic, but probably use OpenSimulator to make it. The last update was in August 2015, but the documentation is mostly online.

I've always been impressed with this as well, but like most of the 3D programs, you only get good results by spending lots of time learning to use it. Seems you can make avatars for OpenSimulator as well with this, via Avastar and Blender (see http://www.makehumancommunity.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11970).

I looked at this a few times when looking at 3D modelling suites. The results look impressive, but there seems to be a distinct lack of a manual for it (maybe a list of shortcuts at http://www.openfx.org/resources/shortcuts/designer.html ?). Last revised in March of 2015.

And this, which is described as a "3D modeler designed to help you create content for your game project, whether you're a professional or indy game developer" seems to quietly chug away in the background, while apps like Unity and Blender get a lot more publicity. Or does it? The website shows a 2011 date, and the last update at source forge is 2013-04-26.

was on a discussion on Facebook about sources of free sounds and music for video editing and someone suggested a proprietary desk top editor. Of course the trouble was that it wasn't free and all the content cost $$$ as well. Decided out of curiosity to look around for alternatives out there, and found the following (all run on Win, but many are cross-platform):
Jokosher -A simple yet powerful multi-track studio
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jokosher/
LMMS - with a free, cross-platform tool for your computer.
https://lmms.io/
SOX - a cross-platform command line utility that can convert various formats of computer audio files in to other formats.
http://sox.sourceforge.net/
Audacity - A free multi-track audio editor and recorder
http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/
Not that I'm a musician either, but being able to edit or a mix a soundtrack comes in handy.
